Tomorrow Energy Receives Permit for Holland Battery 3 Energy Storage System in Leudal
Eindhoven 5 June 2025 : Tomorrow Energy has received a permit from the municipality of Leudal for its Holland Battery 3 project – an energy storage system with a capacity of 11 megawatts and 44 megawatt-hours.
The project will be developed at the Zevenellen industrial site, on the grounds of the former Nuon power plant. This gives the decommissioned coal plant location a sustainable future, as the site is ideally suited for redevelopment. The battery will be connected to the Enexis grid and is expected to be operational by 2026.
Community Engagement Leading up to the project, a constructive dialogue was held with local residents. This open communication will continue throughout the construction and operational phases.

According to Hakkan Yildirim, founder and CEO of Tomorrow Energy, the Zevenellen location was deliberately chosen due to its robust energy infrastructure and strategic position in a region with growing demand for grid flexibility.
“We are proud to take this next step in our series of battery projects,” said Yildirim. “Developing Holland Battery 3 on this historic energy site reflects our vision: repurposing existing industrial locations for the future of sustainable energy. In close collaboration with Enexis, regional partners, and the municipality, we are now preparing for implementation.”
The project will also explore opportunities to integrate with future energy management initiatives at the Zevenellen industrial site. In addition, the battery will be used to help relieve grid congestion and provide services to various electricity markets.
Tomorrow Energy is responsible for the development of Holland Battery 3, playing a central role in engineering, permitting, and construction planning. The project is part of a broader portfolio of battery energy storage systems through which Tomorrow Energy contributes to a flexible, reliable, and sustainable Dutch energy grid.
